You will probably find that the troops were dispelled, because you lost the castle you will not receive a report of any spells cast on it.I agree with Damascus

Sounds like they dispelled the garrison to me as well.If an enemy is attacking you with hidden leaders start finding a few sherifs. Send them round random castles with no troops on them and a few...
